Penn Gallery - starting out 2017

Penn Gallery September 2017, long wall hung with paintings.

Penn Gallery eventually opened in September 2017. We had hoped to open for the summer, but decided to change the outside paint colour, because it was white and needed repainting anyway. Changing the outside paint colour, and adding the Penn Gallery name, required planning permission, because it is a listed building in a conservation area. Planning permission takes a while.

There was plenty to do in the meantime, including painting the inside walls, installing good lighting and hanging systems. Thanks to RSF joinery and electricians, Alnwick, for help with this.

We also hunted the local antique shops, including Hedgeley Antique Centre at Powburn, for display furniture. Most of this got painted with grey furniture paint, except for a hall chair that was too nice to paint.

Once the framed paintings were delivered from The Frame House, near Consett, we were good to go.
